My son recently attended a scout day event in which there were several colleges and a couple of Pro Scouts in attendance. He is a CF/OF with good speed, range, and a strong arm. He is not particularly big at 5'10 155, but he is all muscle and his throws were one of the two best at the event. full carry to to third and home on a line from pretty deep RF. After he was running in the two guys called him over and told him nice job and said he would be hearing from them. I thought this was weird because he doesnt appear to even be on any colleges radar yet. Being the naive kid he is, my son said he didnt know what college they were from (they were donning thier pro team gear and MLB jackets) Is this common, and should he think anything of it? He also played on a team as a gues this fall run by an area scout, and that Scout also seemed really interested in him. Again seems weird since he has no college letters yet. Thanks for any input.

What year is he?
Hes a 2015...Just turned 16 in August though
If he can run like the wind his size may not hurt him. He would project as a CF leadoff type. If they told him what they timed him in the 60 that would be interesting to hear.
I know of a player who was at an Area Code tryout who ran a 6.5 as a 5'8" CF and the pro scouts were very interested.
5tools22,
Sorry to answer a question with a question......But, what other events would your son have attended that would have showcased his skills to college coaches? Has he reached out to any or many college coaches to demonstrate his interest in their schools?
Birdman:
I didnt get his 60 time. His best has been 6.7 to date. To be honest, I think he averages closer to 6.9. He has run side by side with guys who have posted 6.5, but with hand timing his times are not alsways the same as thiers. His body is not fully developed though so i think he can shave that down a lot with time and work. We are currently doing some pretty serious plyo, lifting, sprinting, stretching. He seems to be responding well and puttingo n good muscle mass fast.
What caught thier attention seemed to be his arm and fielding. His throws were dead on on a line no bounce RF to third and Rf to home. He hits well with some power already, but his upper body is not filled in at all so with some size he would show well. Overall he looks like an athlete, and has strong legs (squats about 2.5 bodyweight) and still runs a sub 5:00 mile.
Good geuss on the position. He plays CF and hits near the top 1-2-5 for a quality 18u team, and he hits 3-5 hole and plays corners for a 16u team mainly due to his arm i'm thinking.
As for colleges, he has reached out to a few in email, but needs to mail actual letters still. He has been to a couple showcases and done well in the games. He is not blazing fast IMO, but he is agressive, runs the bases well, and usually steals 2-3 bases a game even against higher level competition. Lately he has been scoring from 1st on just about anything hit in the gaps.
He has played in a few Perfect Game Tourneys this fall and made all tourney team in one and was close on another but didnt have enough at bats. I know in the World Undeclass, FT Meyers he got noticed, but not talked to. The coach was asking about him after he ran a 4.1 HTF on an infield hit.
I just tell him to always be progressing and he will be OK. I know unles you are already 6 ft 180 plus, throw upper 80s, and run sub 7, you are not going to be on the premier list. Next best thing he can do is show consistent ongoing improvement/progression physically and otherwise.
