Back when I was a freshman in High School, 5 or 6 seniors on my HS football team got scholarships to play football at D1/2/3 schools due to the fact that our Senior Quarterback was so heavily recruited......Scouts came to see him and saw some other talent....

Worked out pretty good for the HS quarterback as well...

quote:
I always tell my athletes, "You never know who is watching".
The guy in the stands eating his lunch could be a scout, a college coach, or the dad of the girl you want to take to the prom.
If you take a day off (physically or mentally) and that is the only day a guy sees you, then that is all he has to remember.

This sums it up pretty well. You never know who's watching you.

When son was a freshman we had a senior player, JJ Hardy, now with the Brewers. The scouts were numerous....have never again to this day seen so many scouts, and at so many games......and still to this day I wonder how JJ held his cool, with all those eyes, and stop watches on him....but guess that's what makes him who he is. Of course other team members benefited from all those scouts in attendance....but if I had a choice....would rather not know the scouts were there.....and as the other posters say...play every game well.
Quick story....when my son was in high school (plays in college now), he was at an invitational in Colorado where they were selecting the candidates for the Junior Olympic Team. Afterwards, I was talking to our coach who was in the booth along with the one who was screening the kids. As the screener was scratching off names from his list, our coach asked what he was doing. The screener said, "that one threw his helmet", "that one didn't run it out to first", etc.

As they say...you never know who is watching....
