my son Kyle 2010 graduate is 5ft 11 weighs 138 lbs. he cruises 85-86 and hits 87 frequently on stalker. He is just like I was...a late bloomer..I am 6ft 2 205 but was his size in high school. He is a package of all fast twitch muscles. my queston is will the college recruiters and staff at up coming pg events be able to see his projectability...

If he got good control and movement on his pitches, with decent GPA, he will have a good shot at Major D1 college.

If he work hard over this summer and put up some weights, he should increase his speed near 90. I hope he is a good pitcher, not a thrower. I know some throwers can throw over 90 but no takers at any college. I was wondering why, maybe college coaches see things differently than me.
Does he have broad shoulders? is his mother tall? does he have skinny ankles? most of the time ankles are a pretty easy way to tell whether or not a kid will fatten or muscle up or stay slim in their lower half.
he'll gain weight when his hormones allow him too, but just make sure he is eating TONS of healthy food otherwise he'll get shafted some. but for a pitcher weight hardly matters, theirs fat pitchers, skinny pitchers, muscular pitchers, he just needs to be as healthy as possible

What does this have to do with projectability? It just seems kind of strange. I always thought that ankle size had more to do with overall bone size.

A week ago I was sitting next to my son and noticed that his whole leg and ankle and foot was more beefy than mine (larger). So we got out a tape and sure enough his ankle size was almost a full 1 1/2" bigger in circumfrence than mine. His foot was also 1/2 inch wider, and 1/2 inch longer. Our waist is the same although I am 50 lbs heavier and still 2 inches taller at 5'10 1/2". He just turned 13 a few months back and already he weighs as much now as I did when i graduated HS (155 lbs). He is not fat, just seems to have thick bulky bones with some density. When you accidently run into him it feels like a solid bulky Mack truck! No joke!

So I was just wondering what ankle size had to do with projectability? Is it bad to have large ankles? Seems like there are all different shapes and sizes for ankles of MLB pitchers.
in most circumstances if you have skinny ankles its extremely hard to gain the desired weight and "bulk up" on your lower half. its usually a sign you will stay more on the slim side.
it really doesnt affect pitchers that much, but their potential weight, yes. however players that need speed its a decent way to tell if they can gain or lose it as they age.

I see. If speed ever becomes an issue with my son, I just hope that the competetion is really slow! Son is not very fast off the line. I think most of it has to do with his greater bone size and density. Hopefully son makes it as a pitcher because otherwise he may just be left to catching as his overall speed just isn't fast enough. I don't know if he has started to put on true man muscle yet either as that will make a big difference.
haha nothings wrong with catching! im waiting for the man muscle to just show up one day too, one guy i know told me it finally hit him at 24, he woke up oneday and hit balls 100 feet farther than he ever had before, i had numerous friends say they saw it and it was true. only problem was when he played again at 25 no one wanted him cause he was too old.
