I was actually going to share a story about socker. There's a really cool mascot in the professional socker ranks I read about today.

But this site changes the name of the game to ****** in the link I was going to share and it wouldn't work!

So, socker still stinks. And you'll have to Google Timber Joey on your own and check this guy out.

Want a little inside story, not about Timber Joey, who is a cool mascot, but about that socker franchise that Timber Joey represents?

Hank Paulson's son, Merritt Paulson, bought Portland's AAA baseball franchise, the Portland Beavers, four years ago. The franchise has a long and proud history in Portland, playing in historic Civic Stadium, that holds as many as 20,000 people.

Not too long after Paulson came to town, he also struck a deal with Major League Socker to bring an expansion franchise to Portland.

The Socker folks required that the franchise have a dedicated single purpose stadium - which meant that the Portland Beavers could no longer use Civic Stadim. Paulson tried for a while to find some other place to build a baseball stadium for the Beavers, but couldn't find a suitable spot.

So he sold the team, and it is now in California.

And that is how Socker (AKA Commie Kickball) replaced professional baseball in Portland!

(But Timber Joey is still cool.)
The scary thing is someone believes there's a bigger market for MLS s0ccer than AAA baseball. S0ccer is taking away a lot of youth players from baseball. But I don't think it's taking many who will develop into high school baseball players. MLS teams are starting to get stadiums for their teams rather than sharing. That's a sign s0ccer is finally catching on.
