I am posting this in the Il. forum because I thought it best to try and see how things are done in my area. But no matter where you are please post if interested.Does the average H.S. baseball team keep the stats someplace where other(non players) can get to them to read? And if stats are kept are they updated per game?once a week or when?Is the only reason to keep stats away from public be to keep the other teams one step behind?Don't the other teams already know who to watch out for.I like reading the stats of not only 2016 team but also the teams they play. Some teams keep their stats where a fellow can't read them some have no stats to be found.Whats the deal?

My son's HS coach uses Gamechanger and updates the stats on MaxPreps after every game. I've noticed that some teams use MaxPreps and some don't. Same with Gamechanger.
When my son was in high school the stats were on the team website. When parents became too much of PITA bothering the scorekeeper they were blocked from view.
Go to Gamechanger and do a search for teams in your zip code. Even if you don't find your team, you may see your opponents. Or you may find somebody who is keeping score unofficially. In any case you'll need to pay for membership if you want to see the stats.
Yes I had done that in the past with same staff.Problem is when you have something down and the official is 50 points different a person has to wonder.2016 travel team uses game changer also.I like that.We are also listed on max preps but there is no info there.I can understand keeping things close to the vest. But if some kid is sitting them down as fast as they can stand up or hitting the cover off the ball doesn"t most everyone know?Just by reading the area papers they do a good job with the game info.I guess I just don't get if its really that big a deal who know what with the stats.Oue guys still have to meet the mark when game time comes.I guess coaches don't look at things the same way.Any coaches thoughts???
A lot of teams still keep book old school style, on paper, in the dugout. Maybe the coach is too busy, or just doesn't feel like spending an hour or more, per game, to put it into Gamechanger so it can be uploaded onto MaxPreps.
We usually keep stats on maxpreps and try to update within a day of the game but I see many pros and cons on both sides.
Stats are a good benchmark but kids can get too hung up on them, putting too much head space on their numbers instead of all the other ways they can help the team.
Parents will often use them selectively as arguments for their kids, even though the short sampling of HS stats has many flaws.
There are some things competitors can glean from the posted stats. Obviously, your leadoff is usually going to be quick and your #3 and #4 hitters are going to be best and have most pop. But, sometimes you can pick up other things like #bases stolen, # of HBP's, pitcher BB/K ratio, etc. that can help some.
