Son received calls from probably a dozen or so D1's after July 1. He got positive feedback from several of the coaches for his play (both pitching and hitting) at several tryouts, camps, showcases over the summer. Several coaches said they see him as a two-way D1 player. He's about done with any more baseball events for the summer ... just one more scout ball Elite team tryout, then off to family vacation.

It's just been kinda quiet re: followup phone calls the past couple weeks. Not much activity via e-mail either. Is this pretty typical as coaches are on the road with the final few big national events, e.g., area codes, Connie Mac world series, etc.? Making their final lists of who they're going to pursue more agresssively going into the fall?

Just seems a bit odd ... a lot of interest in July, HS coach got several calls for background and told them he was the the best pitcher and most projectable kid in his program, as well as a great work ethic and attitude. Positive feedback from coaches that saw him at July events.

Now it's just 'quiet' the past few weeks.

Glad to know I am not alone in the "August Doldrums". Lots of excitement and interest and phone calls once a week, with the recruiters promise of them continuing. Then this past 10 days...Nothing! I have started school already so I'm eligible for official visits and I really want to sign in early signing period but am starting to get worried about the sudden drop off. Any ideas???
I hear ya! Same thing with my son. A few schools have been religious about once a week calls, but a lot haven't called in a while. Not sure what's going on. I know if he calls them he will be told everything's cool, when in fact he may be off their radar. I also think coaches are waiting for some of their early offers to give them answers. When they get a no, they will gin up the calls again. Just remember, the only "real" thing in all this is the offer, everything else, calls, emails, kind words, letters aren't worth the paper their written on. And keep filling out any new profile forms you get and return all calls. You can never have too many options. JMHO.

Grandslamfan is completely correct. Until there's a dotted line and a dotted line that you want, you keep courting just like they are. You keep prioritizing your list just like they are. Some schools use their initial phone calls to see who's interested and who's not - then they work on their list. You have plenty of time and you'll hear again, but keeping working in the meantime.
I agree 100% with grandslamfan. I might add that most colleges will not have much scholarship money available to “buy” their players. They may have only two or three full scholarships available and if they have contacted thirty prospective players, simple arithmetic will tell you they are in a constant “adjustment mode”. For instance, if two stud players verbally commit, that will leave them with very little in their recruiting coffers.
I wouldn't wait for the phone to ring...Your player can & should be emailing, phoning, etc to continue to show his interest in programs...
Some coaches are still on the road, watching players...Some are waiting on those verbals...Some are waiting on the fallout...some coaches play it close to the vest & don't give any one an indication until they are ready...
Always have a back up plan ready to execute, just in case his first choice (s) may not pan out...
