I did not want to high jack COACHDAD's thread so I started this new one.....
quote:
Here it is in a nutshell..close friend's son was recruited by a top D2 in Florida. Was told by the coach that he would be placed on the JV team his first year with an excellent chance of being moved up his soph year. Gets to school under the assumption that he'd be playing JV baseball. Never was told until he got there that they had dropped their JV team.

So far, in that thread, there has been a lot of good advice on dealing with this situation.... I have non to offer so I started this thread for my question.

Where is the accountability for this situation?

Do you think it is the coaches responsibility to tell his prospective players that the JV program has been discontinued as soon as he found out?

Is it the players responibility to keep track of a colleges decisions about their programs?

Excellent question ...

I would feel that it is the coaches roll to inform new recruits of changes like this. This kind of information isn't available on a website ... in fact, it would be difficult for an outsider to discern it prior to enrollment.

... but, dropping the program after specifically recruiting players for that program speaks volumes about the overall baseball program and most of that information is negative. Inadequate planning for the future seems to be leading to knee-jerk reactions.
