REGARDING THE TRAVEL SHOWCASE TEAM do you want a coach that is more an instructor than baseball coach?

This is age dependent, but for a HS based program and looking back on it now if I had to pick TR I would want:
1. Mentor. Someone who can help a player understand the differences in playing at the College level and nuances involved in becoming a player that can excel at the next level. Much of this is mental.
2. Connected. A coach who is connected with college coaches and who has credibility with them.
3. Honest and straightforward. Be able to tell a player (and his parents) in a straightforward way where he sees his talents and what programs he might best fit.
4. Can communicate. A coach who can communicate and teach the subtle minor things he sees in a player that can help him succeed at the next level. This is particularly important for "on field" / "in action" where the pressure may be on players to perform in a stressful situation. Being able to keep a team loose and focused on game day is important.
As far as teaching how to field and pitch and technique involved there is limited need for this at the HS level IMO.
Good question.
