Would it be ok to send a college coach an email telling him about a visit you have made to another college? Thanks

He wants to stay instate and go to the local University. He is a sophomore in HS. The instate school (D1 SEC) has showed interest but we kinda are feeling like they know that they have him kind of thing. This past weekend we went on an unoffical visit to a D1 (ACC) school that he really likes but still has his heart set in attending local University. I was wondering if he should send the local University an email telling him about the visit and asking them what kind of interest they have in him.
YelloHello,
I'm at a total loss WHY you would do that. Please give us some context.
Why? What is your motivation?
The coaches may know each other and compare notes.

Sophomore?? A lot can happen to change your plans, or the coaches in the next 12 to 18 months.
YelloHello,
My two cents....If your son has SEC/ACC top level talent, it is In your best interest to keep that information to yourself. In addition, I would cast a wider net to see who else is interested and give yourself some options. The larger the market your son creates for himself the more leverage and choices he will have when it really counts.
I know you want to stay local (most kids do when they start this process) but you don't have to share that information. This is very much like a poker game. You don't want to show your hand until someone "calls". Also remember the house usually wins in the long run.
