Hooking can sometimes be associated with rolling the wrists. If his hands or wrists turned over he may have been hooking the ball down the line. Without seeing the report, or better yet, seeing your boy, it may be hard to tell for sure. No stride refers to his hitting approach. He may be lifting his front foot and putting it down or just not striding. That part is not necessarily a negative, but the hook can be.

If he is hooking the ball, his energy is going around the ball instead of directly through the ball. This usually indicates a long swing. IMO
Hooking the ball means he does not stay inside the ball on his swing. It means he is coming around the ball with his bath path. In otherwords lets say the ball is inside he takes the barrell way out and around the ball and if hit it will be foul. This is caused by casting the arms out on the swing and is generally considered a long swing path. No stride is fine. Like Coach Ric said he probaly is just picking it up and putting it down and that is just fine in fact I would much rather see that than a stride IMO. Short compact swing , staying inside the baseball , hitting the baseball deep in the zone that is where you want to be.
