I have googled the world with no answers....The only name that jumped out of my memory was sling shoting Walter Johnson rising out of the Midwest cornfields or David Clyde going straight to bigs out of HS...Can't wait to read the answer! It has legs...but I don't know what it is??

Drum roll... the record is 40 strikeouts in a single game, set in 2004.
The pitcher didn't start the game. In fact he entered in relief in the 4th inning, and he lost the game 2-1 in the 24th inning.
How did a HS pitcher last so long? The game was suspended after the first 12 innings due to darkness and finished a week later with the same pitcher.
Last I heard the pitcher, Joe Labek of Ridgewood (IL) High was heading off to Arizona State but I don't find anything to indicate he ever played for that college.
Anyone know where he is now?
