2013 has had decent interest... Just finished Jupiter with limited success due to large roster. (subject for other posts).

Realizing that there are a limited number of weekends to attend camps he has also been trying (sometimes successfully, sometimes not) to determine if there is really interest and opportunity at the schools sending the camp invites.

My question is the value of a Top96 camp at this point. Before you respond let me say that I am not questioning cost, I know it's not cheap. I've also mapped out the schools and the coaches attending and in many instances there are H/C or assistant coaches attending. Yes, several volunteers as well that I know are not ultimate decision makers. So my question is more centered on if this is a good exposure tool for a senior at this point? As long as some of the schools in attendance are actually schools he would likely attend if offered.

I'm probably asking a question that you can't answer, which is are coaches actually coming to these camps looking for a senior at this point or are they just there to make the $$ and possibly see someone (junior or below) to follow for the future.

Thanks for any insight...

Thanks JB... as I was typing my question I was pretty much answering it for myself, and coming to your conclusion...

We may go to the Saturday portion of a Top96 event that has several interesting schools attending this weekend, then come back for a 1-day college camp at the school that is his current #1 and has been courting him, but hasn't offered yet.

Wish me luck trying to negotiate a discount from Top96 for only attending 1 day Smile
In line with justbaseball's comment, do not discount a "volunteer" assistant's presence at a venue where players' performances are being evaluated. Astute head coaches and recruiting coordinators expect a thorough evaluation of each relevant player present, a written report is filed, and a thorough debriefing is done. It is also the case that third assistants are frequently given a full seat at the recruiting discussion table on an ongoing basis.

Appreciate that! Stressful is an understatement... Prepster - your comments are taken to heart, thanks.

As it turns out, was just on the phone with Top96 and they only charge 1/2 for one day plus an administrative fee so definitely more than fair.

I know we're hoping that the one school comes through but not putting eggs in one basket for sure, just want as many baskets as possible at this point. Plus the Top96 event has a very good mix of DI and DII schools so it's a solid range.
I really think it depends. In our experience the Top96 were great initial exposure events as they represent a broad spectrum of d1,d2 and d3 schools. Are there schools that will be attending that are still looking for 2013's, absolutely.

I would look at the date that it is being held and see if there are any "target" schools that are holding camp or showcase events the same day. Our experience has lead to the conclusion that the direct involvement at these events with coaches and players are much better than the larger events.

I would echo Prepster's comments about the volunteer coaches. They are there for a reason, and it is not to just collect the fee for attending, they are looking for players that can contribute to their programs. I can tell you that it was the volunteer coach who saw my 2013 last year that got him on the RC radar where he is going to be playing next year.

Good luck...
In my view Top96 is in the middle to upper level of the organizations that give kids exposure. I'd say Perfect Game is the top tier, where as Under Armour is at the bottom.

If you are interested you can look up some of my threads regarding similar topics as my son was an unsigned senior as we got started very late in the recruitment process. That combined with him not being a bona fide stud made it an uphill battle to get him exposure.
Still we were able to help him accomplish his goal, so it can be done even at a late stage of a HS senior.
Here's my take on Top 96. My 2014 attended an event this summer. It was very convenient for us as it was only 30 minutes from home, though pricey. He was exposed to a slew of college coaches as he worked through the various hitting/defensive/throwing stations.

Measurables seem to be very important.

Every kid has one of the coaches assigned to him that does a written evaluation and has a one on one with the player and parent at the conclusion. My son's assigned coach was the recruiting coordinator at one of our local colleges. He encouraged my son to consider switching positions since my son is an outfielder with a slow 60 time. He's L/L so first base was the obvious spot. He has transitioned to first during the fall and prefers that position to outfield and his speed is not as great of a concern.

Other benefits... You're added to the mail list of a ton of colleges and receive invites to their camps. He has since attended two college camps where.

This was his first exposure to a showcase camp and overall it was a very good experience.
