QUESTION regarding Quiet Period

Spetember 1-13, 2007 is defined as a Quiet Period for Baseball on the NCAA website.

Quiet period - permissible to make in-person recruiting contacts only on the member institution's campus.

QUESTION: It appears to me that you can take an official (or unofficial) visit on campus during this time. BUT, can a coach make a phone call during this timeframe? If the Player makes the call during the quiet period and gets the coach live, I am assuming he can talk? If the player has to leave a message, can the coach call him back during this time?

You can take an official visit during that time frame. One of my sons is sceduled during that period. I believe the student athlete can contact the coach but not sure if the Coach can call him

I am sure someone else can shed some light on that part of your question.

You can call but the coach can't.
They can not recruit during that time and you son cannot show his skills . The coach can tour the school but he has to treat you like a non athletic student.
My son had an uofficial visit at UNLV during the QP. He left his DVD and toured the school with the Coordinator but that was all he could do.

What if you are attending a camp on campus with other schools coaches also working the camp...what rules apply?

Attending camps, by NCAA standards, are not considered recruiting opportunities for coaches.

Based on the definition of Quiet period that I cut and pasted from the NCAA website, it would appear to me that an official OR unofficial visit would be allowed during the quiet period..........

From the NCAA Guide for the College-Bound Student Athlete:

Quiet Period defined:

'The college coach may not have any in-person contact with you or your parents off the college's campus. The coach may not watch you play or visit your high school during this period. You and your parents may visit a college campus during this time. A coach may write or telephone you or your parents during this time.'
