I've always been a Tiger Woods fan.

With his recent difficulties, I was disappointed that he let his family down. He was trying to have it both ways - live the bachelor lifestyle yet promote and profit from the wholesome family image.

After all that went down, I didn't see his caddy bailing on him or making any comments about the troubling circumstances.

Now Tiger has fired him. Obviously, none of us know any of the details, but loyalty sometimes carries a big price which I believe the caddy paid in full. Now he has been rewarded by getting fired.

May also indicate Tiger's knee isn't coming back as quickly as some hoped.

I agree, this gives the guy a chance to get back to work, though I heard he is set for life.

Not sure what's questionable, just like in other sports, I am sure that this was a business decision.

That doesn't make any sense. If his intent was to let him work, then that is what he should have said - they parted ways amicably so Williams could work while Tiger rehabbed. He fired him however and given Williams stood beside him when the bullets were flying, that is questionable imho.

CD you make a good point but for 10% of earnings, I doubt Williams hung in there for friendship.

I think that they had to let others know that the ties were cut with Tiger for him to work, without others thinking, will he go back when he is better?

I see it strictly handled as a business decision, for both employer and employee.
Woods is a sharp guy in terms of goals. I'd put the odds at over even money that he had an arrangement that lowered the percentage payout to his caddie on some scaled basis as Woods winnings went higher

Its the same thing that happens in real estate commissions...the most expensive properties get the % negotiated downward. Woods is no Santa Claus.

My wife had an interesting observation the other day regarding the *** scandals...linking them to the possiblity that there was steroid use going on that affected behaviour in other ways. I do recall that there was some link between Woods ans some Canadian doctor who was involved in PED's. In any case, maybe his compulsion was not completely natural.
I am not sure how sharp Woods is, he pays people to do that stuff for him.
Now Williams is out crying the blues, we don't really know the situation, but I will bet he was advised to let him go (for business rasons), he can't afford him hanging around anymore, Woods ertainly isn't getting any richer these days.
Last time I checked, golf was a professional sport. Didn't you guys get the memo that there is no loyalty whatsoever in professional sports today. This was an employer/employee relationship, and a business decision. Unfortunetly, people lose their jobs in all walks of life including professional golf caddies. He'll find work.

How Tiger handled it is another matter. The Tiger "brand" has taken another hit. I can't think of a sports icon that has fallen as far as Tiger in my life time (not quite 50). Anybody think of anyone that comes close to falling as far as Tiger...Dwight Gooden, Pete Rose are the only two that come to mind.
