I am a 14 year old who plays freshman baseball and need to get a new glove (other glove doesnt fit on my hand). I have been looking at mainly Rawlings gloves and Wilson A2000 and A2k's. I really dont know much about it and have been looking for awhile but what are the best glove patterns for an outfielder? The price range is about $300 dollars and i want it to last me a couple years.

My second question is are there any good workouts to follow? I have started lifting about a month ago and was wondering if there are things that I need or should be doing.

I would stay away from the A2K. For the money they are not a good value.

The A2000 are still solid gloves although I think the Rawlings Heart of the Hide (HOH) gloves offer the best value. They are made of good quality leather but still break in rather quickly.

For outfield you will want at least a glove that is 12 in or bigger. Most are 12.75+. How big are you?

My 14 year old Freshman son uses a Rawlings HOH PRONP5M which is a mesh back 11.75in glove. He uses it for 3rd base and pitching and it is the favorite glove he's had.

Here is a similar model for outfield. It is the Rawlings HOH meshback PRO303M...

We have had a lot of success with the jaeger throwing program and j-bands. You can get them here...

Lots of good stuff about throwing and arm care on his site. Take a look at some of the youtube videos there.

I might look into buying that now thank you.

and ranger what kind of Rawlings did he have?
OK - here is the trap-eze web in the Heart of the Hide model.

http://www.ballgloves.com/cgi-local/p.pl?PROTB24B

and in a dual core (which will break in fast but not get floppy)

http://www.ballgloves.com/cgi-local/p.pl?PRO601DC

And Don Morton's sports (www.ballgloves.com) is a very reputable dealer. I have purchased several gloves from there. They are the only people in the US to offer a special type of Rawlings leather (dry Horween) and they also have a custom glove shop.

As for HOH vs. pro-preferred, I had a pro-preferred and wasn't that impressed. The HOH gloves are really very good. But I agree that the pro-preferred camel colors are nice. Smile

My son has his 11 3/4 Pro Preferred glove and after getting it broke in loves it. He plays mixed infielder and outfielder and feels comfortable with it in either situation. He is 13 and roughly the same size as you (he is 5'6-5-7).

He figures this will be the glove he uses through high school and if he has his way in college. I'm probably going to invest in a catcher's mitt for him in the same brand if he continues to catch.

If you look you can find them for under 350 bucks (mine was on e-bay, paid 225 for a brand new glove) so you can get them for good prices.
ya what glove would work? i too am 14 and gonna be playing freshman/sophomore ball and i recently was moved to center. i had a nike keystone something i dont remember but it was a 11.50 and i played SS and 3B but i got a 12.50 or 13 worth and its held up well but i think im going to need a new one. would i want to pay the $300 for a nice glove if im just going to grow out of it by my Senior year?

No. Spend $150-$175 for a Rawlings Heart of the Hide.

There are good models in Akadema's line for under $200 also.

If you have a good baseball pro shop locally, then go look at all the gloves in the $150-$200 price point. Those are usually the best value.

If no pro shop, I think the Rawlings and the A2000 have the best quality control and can be bought on the internet because the gloves are almost always the same feel (for a given model). But gloves like Nokona can be wildly different from glove to glove and I would not purchase one without trying it first.

Go ask these same questions on glove works forum...

The Rawlings PRONP5 would work for a "utility" glove that you could use for all spots at the JV or Freshman level. It's an 11.75 but it plays a little larger.

My recommendation would be to get a utility glove like this for now. You can always get an outfield glove later as well as a smaller middle infield glove (11.5 or 11.25).

You could compare the PRONP5 to some of Akadema's models to see if there are similar ones.

I think the Wilson A2000 EL3 is about this size as well. But I don't personally like that glove as it is pretty narrow. Good for 3B or utility/outfield, but not so much for middle infield (EL3 is the Evan Longoria pattern). The only A2000 I like is the A2000 1786 but I think that is an 11.5.
