Radford University in Virginia

The athletic program has not been interested in winning baseball games for some time now. Basebal has been put into a backseat to too many other sports to be competitive. Of which by the way none have had any meaningful success. They do not effectively recruit in Virginia and no Division I Head Coach in the country has survived a W-L record like Kent. ???

Don't know what Radford's efforts on recruiting in Va. are but they have recruited to solid lefthanded pitchers from Md. for the 2007 season.

Thanks for the info. I was just curious because my son received an academic brochure and I noticed they played D1. I noticed the W-L record the past few years and wondered how long they have been D1.

RU has played Division I baseball since the mid-80's.

Radford has not done a good job of recruiting over the past several years. Assistant coaches are great but the head coach has very little personality thus causing good players feeling
indifferent about committing to a program that could do well with all of the talent in Virginia.

Over this past summer, my son (who played D-3)was talking to a few few of their players and they were comparing practices, work-outs, game prep, etc. The Radford player were amazed at what my son's team did, compared to how little their team did.

They have been recruiting form the Tidewater area the past couple of years.

It has been many years since a player from Tidewater or Richmond chose RU after seriously being recruited by any other DI program.

It is not just baseball at RU that is going nowhere. They eliminated lacrosse some time ago and mens and womens basketball and s****r have stayed at a dead end. The big move was to add Track and Field. Tennis has had the most success.

Visited the Campus this fall.I think there is about 9500 students enrolled. Nice area in the mountains and the campus is very clean. All I can say is if your son is a talented athlete he will standout no matter the program.
