90 foot range is impressive for a cheap radar. You'll go thru a lot of C batteries if you use it often.

Anyone have one of these?

Used to have the original Bushnell radar gun (the "Speedster", as opposed to the later "Velocity" model) before an accident caused its untimely demise.

I put it beside a Stalker Sport. It was almost always reading 2 mph slower than the Stalker, occasionally reading 1 mph slower. Very repeatable. Just take the reading the Speedster gives and add 2 mph and you are close enough.

However, it will not read accurately at more than about 60'. It does NOT have 90' range. And the trigger release takes some technique. The Speedster that I had (early model) did not have a peak hold reading, you had to release the trigger to get a reading. So timing was important to get the out of hand speed.
Key thing is whether the reading is repeatable, as you say. Might read lower than a pro gun due to less frequent sampling rates. Sounds worthwhile for training purposes. Cheaper and much more range than a Speedchek which can be a nice gift.

90 foot range would mean you could use it in game situations to a limited degree.

Anyone use the new version of Speedchek lately? It was reported several months ago that it had some quality issues. Otherwise, I'm a fan of the old Speedchek for training.

Can anyone confirm the range of Shack's gun? 60 or 90? A 90 foot range would make it a fabulous buy and a must-have for aspiring pitchers. .

One of the most frustrating experiences of my life was trying to get the Bushnell product to take a reading, period. The unit I bought would only 'capture' maybe one out of every five pitches. It was horrible - major waste of money.

See if you can find a used Stalker - I went for a refurb Stalker from the factory and have never regretted it. The Bushnell is......I don't even know where it is right now.....probably being used as a paperweight at Hobo Junction.
Texan - I checked, too -- no refurbs at this time. I would e-mail the company and inquire when they anticipate offering more. They have AWESOME customer service.

(mine was about $800 for the full Sport package, 2 battery handles, etc etc; I wouldn't have done it just for me, but the baseball clinic I work with made it affordable)
Interesting to me that Ebay rarely has used baseball Stalkers or Jugs guns for sale even after the season ended. The few I've seen there tend to get plenty of bids.

Why so few? It's not like there's much one can do with a used radar once a kid's done playing the sport.

Basic Stalker Sport setup is about $900, but I suspect you could sell a dad-owned 2 to 4 year old gun very quickly on Ebay for $650 to $750.
