Have you thought about rating your kid in an objective way? Or anyother player that maybe your son plays with? How about this. Take the five tools and then add in make up. Make up would be work ethic , attitude , approach to the game such as high energy , hustle etc. Then you come up with a total score. Five points per area would give you a perfect score of 30.

Speed 1 Poor 2 Below Avg 3 Avg 4 Above Avg 5 Outstanding

Power
Hits for average
Defense
Arm Strength
Make Up

Be honest and see what score you would give your kid. Some of you might say Im not sure what is avg etc. Just judge him according to the kids he plays with. Or judge him against the kids that you consider outstanding etc. I do this with all my HS players. I do not reveal it or discuss it with them. We as coaches talk about it and bounce it off oneanother. It can be alot of fun to see how different people see kids etc. Just a thought.

I have a hard time thinking my son is average in any of the tools area. It would be hard to put the time and treasure into my sons game if I ever thought he was average. I am not claiming that I am not delusional, but he scores well at the FSU camps...is that a fair indication or do they score you high so you come back?

I know you don't mean that the way it sounds. Parents put a great deal of time and treasure into their children's games no matter what their talent level. Special Olympics is a great example of that.

I think all college camps have a primary goal of generating money for their program. Is a player's evaluation manipulated to assist in achiveing that goal? noidea That's a very good question. I'm sure all college coaches want a group of "happy campers" leaving their camps and going back to their hometowns to spread the word.

You are right. I did not mean that the way it sounded. I was just being a little candid about my ability to see my son without bias. I never played the sport in any organized fashion and tend to rely on people that I percieve to be experts (unfortunately who I pay for training, so again the feedback may be suspect)to tell me what level of potential my son has. We will be going the the PG underclassmen event at the end of the month. There I suppose for better or worse the truth may become clearer.
