BEENTHERE, KEN WILLIAMS JR. 60 time was 6.5
express...I'm not surprised.
Has two "plus" skills...running speed and throwing arm (although that rifle isn't sure exactly where the target is from time to time...) Tried to get him to play with us, Upper Deck Cougars, in 2002. Just didn't work out.
Nice player. Surprised PG doesn't put him #1 in Illinois.

I do'nt know what his time in the 60, 50 or 47.3 is but I did see him beat out a ground ball to 2'nd base. That kid can flat out run.
Beenthere, Spoke with Kenny Williams 2/11/04 he corrected me he ran 6.3at Stanford f/y/i hope your son has a great season.
I've liked Kenny for a long time.
Wish him well this spring and beyond.

Maize, I was going to give you an outside of the Chicago view point that you asked for but then realized that 04 parent answered the orginal question that you raised!!! Since I noticed that you are from the Kansas area, there are several extremely talented players coming out of that area this year and I believe that they are heading for top 10 D1 Universities!! Again, Baseball America would be a great resource for that!!

i know of a prospect who is in college now that has gone untouched by any college in indiana. he also ran a 3.1 from home to first.
i didnt know jesse owens played baseball
Kenny...Atta boy...y'r larnin'...
If it will help in your "speed" discussions....Mickey Mantle was the quickest Yankee and ran a 3.1 from the left and 3.4 from the right on the home to first.
My son runs a 6.9 - 7.0 60-yd. He is rarely beaten at camps/exposures/tryouts.
I have seen a 6.7 at a camp and the kid running it was "way ahead of everyone else"...it was very obvious, you didn't need a watch to see he was that much faster.
I cannot imagine a 6.2 or 6.3!

I was around when Mickey was playing.
Where did he run a 3.1?
I know it wasn't in America!

Been There,
Mickey ran it in spring training....was told to me by someone who played with him...perhaps the teller was exagerating, or more likely the timer was generous...but he was the quickest on the team (1958).

"His speed (Mantle) was unbelievable to Yankees' manager Casey Stengel. He was clocked at an incredible 2.9 seconds from home to first on a left-handed drag bunt (after his 1951 World Series injury he slowed to a still blazing 3.1 seconds)"~~~Hard to believe, personally, I DONT believe it....but heres the link http://www.themick.com/MINIBIO2.HTM 2.9, ha Id liek to see that
The 3.1 is a wll known AND ACCEPTED FACT. BTIL, you are my age but you did not pay much attention to his legend,. This was second to nothing when "The Mick" was discussed. I read it or heard it several times a year in the 50's. Keep in mind 3.1 would be 3.3 or so electronically.
sox...I talk with you for 15 minutes while watching our kids at a showcase and you think you know everything about me. (lol)
While Mick was running a 2.3 on a drag bunt, Elston Howard had a .6 pop time.
---
gamer...I don't believe it, either.
And if it was Casey Stengel (of all people) quoting anyone about anything....I really don't believe it!
Remember the Yankess farm club in the Majors? Kansas City.

BTIL, The reporter/biographer was early lewis and not casey. i really know nothing about you of course but as you know the mick was bigger than any one at any time ever, esp. during the relatively quiet late 50's, early 60,s. i DO believe he was as fast as any who have played the game. themick.com was well worth the visit.check it out.
Thanks, sox. On my way to check out the site.
