I would like to bring to everyone in NH's attention that Brad Zapenas and AJ Bazdanes both from Nashua, NH and both in their freshman seasons with their college teams. Bazdanes with UMaine who is currently pitching out of the bullpen with 5.0 IP and 0.00 ERA while fanning 9. Zapenas with Boston College is off to a red hot start, currently batting .345, 13 runs scored and 12 runs batted in. Zapenas is in the top 5 in most offensive categories for BC. Both these young men should be commended on how they are representing NH Baseball.

I played high school and middle school ball with Brian Wilson, he is the reason I get the MLB Extra Innings package, I enjoy watching him pitch. Fuld too another great example for NH young ball players. I think it is important for NH ball players to know about these guys and what they are doing so that these kids know that they can achieve their dreams, that it is possible. Yes both Zap and AJ participated in some of the GSBA leagues but thats not while I mentioned what they are doing, I just get excited to see NH ball players move on to the next level. Any player who moves on to any level of college ball should be proud of their accomplishment, because it is an amazing experience and again sets an example for our younger players.

your absolutely right. we have quite a few d1 players from nh. URI,GW,vermont,UMA,UNC, st johns, the list goes on. not to mention d2 and d3. it is a very big deal to play beyond hs, we should make note of it.

those two are on their way to a great college baseball experience.
Don't forget Chris Carpenter (former CY Young winner I believe) and Chris Lambert who got called up last year and is on Detroit's 25 man roster. Both are pitchers from Manchester.

Jeff Locke is a top 5 prospect for the Braves (AA for him this year I believe)another NH pitcher doing well in the pros.

Even though he is now in California KC Hobson cut his baseball teeth in Nashua (can only imagine how good Nashua North would have been last year had they not moved his Sophomore year) and he is headed for Texas AM next season if he doesn't turn pro first. Projected to be a high round (2nd - 3rd round) draft pick.

NH kids have to work harder to get noticed, but with the Extra Innings and other facilities that have opened in the past few years in the state to help kids and teams workout in the winter, it is getting easier to keep in baseball shape. More and more AAU type teams are popping up so the kids are playing more games and some are travelling to the better tournaments in the country. It should keep getting better.

Now we need for there to be more College Development teams that travel and participate in the BIG tournaments that scouts and colleges attend in the summer and fall. That is the next step. Too few in the area right now.
Hello All! I write a NH Sports column for a national website (www.examiner.com)and plan on writing periodic pieces on possible NH based (high school or college)baseball prospects. My focus in not on high school sports (we have another writer who does that) but I do want to give some attention to either high school prospects who are attracting major college or MLB attention as well as top collegiate players who are either from New Hampshire or go to school here.

I will be monitoring this an other forums but if you want to make me aware directly of players of interest please feel free to email me.

If you want to check out my columns you can do so here: http://www.examiner.com/Manchester-Sports.html

Thanks!
