Did the player contact any schools over the past 2 years?

Less than a month from school starting for the Fall and player has not registered for a school?

Is the player looking for an education or a team?

Has he spoken to the coaches of schools in the "OAK CREEK WISCONSIN" area

In regards to getting noticed I think the question may be getting motivated.

OC - I know for a fact that there's still baseball money out there. I know a local kid who is waiting to hear what the total package will be from two DII schools who both have baseball money left and one DIII school. Of course, you have to have some baseball ability.

However, like NCDad, I wonder if the player has registered/enrolled in a school yet. Does he want an education and play baseball or just to play baseball. If it's school and ball, then someone needs to be on the phone Monday and plan on travelling on Tuesday! Good luck.

HOW DOES ONE GET NOTICED IF THIS PLAYER IS GOOD ENOUGH BUT PARENTS DO NOT FEEL HE SHOULD HAVE TO BE SOLD TO GET INTO THE COLLEGE HE WOULD LIKE?

If he hasn't been noticed by a local school by now, especially playing for 3x state champion Oak Creek, He is NOT going to get noticed without you doing some marketing.

Send me a PM with your phone number and I will give you a call and we can talk about options.

I live in New Berlin
TRHit you are a cynic. Big Grin ocbaseball I see you are a new member of one day. Welcome! TRHit makes reference to the all caps which means something similar to screaming in cyber conversation and a poll with just one option is a little odd but what I think you are wanting is to "poll" people on how to get noticed. noidea
You’ll figure all that out about the high school baseball web in due time ….. if we don’t run you off first. Big Grin
If that is the case I'll try to give my opinion. First off if your son wants to stay close home it will a lot less work but does narrow his choices. Like it or not your son will have to sell himself and he has a very short time to do it. This is normally done over the last few years of high school by means of exposure (usually accomplished with showcases and summer teams). But let’s take where your son is at this point and go forward. ASAP! Have your son contact the coaches (or you can) and explain the situation. He may even have to call them at home. See if they are aware of your son and ask specifically if he has the ability to play for their team. If they are not aware of your son, then he needs to arrange to be seen by those coaches. Ask them how to accomplish this. The information your son gets from the coach(s) should help him understand where he stands and what his next step should be.
Best of luck,
Fungo
Sorry about the caps did not mean to do this, yes he has attend showcase Perfect game here in WI and a combinded team from WI that went to IA, I do not know if I stated this but we feel as coaches do he has potential but is reserved on attention and always we have had to push him to get motivated as on person had indicated. My husband does not feel he should have to be sold and or marketed. I know in my heart and you can see it in his eyes he wants to play. He is registered at Milwaukee MATC and received a letter for Madison MATC regarding tryouts. I was looking for options and view points as to whether my thinking is right or wrong in regards to getting him more noticed since he and his brother have always been great players but no need for spotlight just getting the job done. And do to the fact OC has players in the spotlight example Tony Butler, whom my son says he has never played with a better player then him..this is just the kind of kid we raised. I know you will be heart broken if he does not take this opporunity to get motivated. Thanks again. I do apologize!
OC - You have received some very good advice. I would follow what Fungo has told you to the letter. Pick up the phone first thing Monday morning. I have found sometimes that HS players and parents don't take the initiative which is easily viewed as a lack of motivation, but in truth it's because they just don't know what to do. So, if your son truly wants to play ball in college, you'll have to put him out there. Good luck!

I too am a new member, but have been reading for a few months. Some of these guys have been around for awhile and therefore dont realize that some of us are novices and dont know all the words used on the www in messages boards.. I had the hardest time trying to figure out what PM meant..(originally thought it had to do something with PMS but learned it is private messaging).. some of these guys have a great sense of humor.. some know alot about others on the web than we can probably never learn about even in a year, but most of all this is a great place to learn a lot about the recruiting process. Our son has heard from some big schools, some not so big. We still had no idea of what to expect and have appreciated reading all that came out around July 1st posts. Someone or some thread (look at me using the big words!!!! I think that means another chatroom for us oldies) said go to recruiting on the homepage of this site called Recruiting Tips.. who ever wrote this did a great job and it has been very helpful to us.. go read it,jump to your spot in the highschool recruiting suggestions.. and go to work. We had a call from one college who had gotten our letter(taht we sent out after reading about it) and he said that he knew who our son was and that we would hear from them. It is a great place to start and every so often go back and read again to make yourself feel like you are doing what you should.. good luck.. I still dont know how to use the PM, but slowy am learning. Maybe there should be a place on the site that tells us dumbies what all the abbreviations and special inferences mean before we commit some horrible blunder.. All you old members remember its okay to repeat yourself.. new guys are always coming on and us almost new guys can just skip over that which we have already heard.. and sometimes we need to hear it again anyway.. so I have been told a few times.
Is your son looking to live at home, and that is why you mention community colleges in Oak Creek? Because MATC is the only one with a baseball program right in your town.
However, Madison MATC plays a very competitive schedule, and traveling time for him to Madison may be close to an hour, but is still doable.
There are other JUCO's in Wisconsin and IL that are close enough to drive daily.
If you are looking for more personal advice, feel free to leave me a PM and I can help you out.
Our son also played a lot of traveling and competitive ball, and started out at a JUCO, and has now transferred to a 4 year university. So, I've got lots of experience in looking at different schools, and know some of the programs out there, especially in WI and IL.
I'm wondering, also, why the high school coach or some of your son's traveling coaches haven't helped you out in this regard.
Something bothers me, and I am speculating here.

Oak Creek has won the State championship the past 3 years. You have had TONS of college & Pro Scouts at many of your games and practices (thanks to Tony Butler & others). I would think that at least some of the colleges would have shown an interest in your son.

What position did he play for Oak Creek? Was he a starter? If so for how many years?

What are his grades? ACT Score?

Just because he wasn't recruited, doesn't mean that he can't play at a local college. You just need to find the right fit.

If he wasn't recruited, then he will need to contact coaches and express his interest. My guess is that at this point in time they will tell him to register for class and show up at the tryouts. Some schools will take most any body that walks on the field, some are VERY competitive (2005 National Champion Whitewater, Oshkosh, Carthage, LaCrosse etc.) and have 100 plus guys at their tryouts. I know guys that were all conference that were cut or grey shirted at these schools.

As I said email me with a phone number and I will be happy to discuss your options.
Texbbfan,
Thanks for your post and helping people like me understand your point of view. That’s something we all need to be reminded of from time to time! We tend to forget that we have been here for a long time and we do take a lot for granted. I think I first found the HSBBW in 1999 when my son was a freshman in high school and like most parents I was looking for answers and didn’t have a clue as to what was going on

Bob Howdeshell wrote 99% of that information and believe it or not Bob, who was the parent of a high school baseball player, started this website because he was having the same difficulties as everyone else. At the time there was no place to go to get information on high school baseball and beyond. If we all think about the help we received from the high school baseball web we should feel a sense of obligation to those that follow. We need to pass the torch.
Thanks,
Fungo

PS (Post Script) If you want to send a PM (Private Message) someone, Just click on that person’s screen name at the left hand side of a post they have authored (or responded to) and you will be given five options, one of which is “Invite to a private topic” you will be shown a screen to send a private message to that person.
If you wish to check your private messages, you can go to the “GO” tag and click on “my space” and follow the tags to private messaging. I opted to be notified by email if I receive a private message.
OC- Welcome to the HSBaseballWeb. It was only in January that I joined this myself and am still learning stuff everyday.
Try not to take too many things too personally when people make comments. When I first joined this site, I had heard about a website and my first post inquired about this website. Next thing I know everyone responding to my post jumped on me for "endorsing" or "advertising" this website when that was never my intention.
Unfortunately, buy the very nature of this medium, people are going to state things and they are not always going to be taken the right way. There are also people like TRHit who mean well, but come off very harsh.
So keep coming back and asking questions. This past 7 months has been a good learning experience for me and it has felt good when I have been able to recipricate by sharing my experiences with others.
OCBaseball, I'm getting the feeling that your son is one of my all time favorite players and young men. I coached the PG Wisconsin team in Iowa and if I'm guessing right his initials are SB. Am I right? Even though Oak Creek ended our season at state (congrats....again; my son was the starting and losing pitcher Frown ) I really love all your ballplayers. Great team! Please send me a PM if you like with your contact info and I will be glad to help as much as I can. BigWI is a another great resources as well.
