I recently went through the recruiting process with my 2014 son and am very excited to say that he has committed to play baseball at a top D1 school. Now I am working to help my daughter, who is a 2016 Volleyball player. She recently contacted NCSA on line and we had a consultation with them over the phone. It all sounds good, but I am wondering if anyone out there has had any experiences with this service that you can share.

My initial thoughts are that they make it sound real good but they really do not seem to offer anything that you cant do yourself.

In my sons case he got exposure playing in showcase events with his club team as well as a Perfect Game showcase and also participated in some college camps one of which at the school he ultimately committed to.

I know it is a bit off topic here but if anyone has any experiences with girls volleyball recruiting I would love to hear about it.

Thanks!

While I do not have any direct experience with girls volleyball recruiting, I do have several years of experience with D1 and D2 baseball recruiting. I assume that they can't be too far off form one another

All I have to say is that exposure is the key. The biggest mistake potential recruits make is assuming that if they are good enough the will be found. However, in reality, this will not be the case unless you are truly one in a million.

I'm sure you are already aware of this as it seems you were very successful with your son.

Also, don't assume that just because a D1 coach contacts you once or twice means a whole lot. They contact hundreds of potential recruits every season. If you really want to be on their radar, try contacting them through a physical letter first, and maybe a few e-mails later on if they show further interest. Try not to be too persistent though. Giving them information about what you do off the court helps to. (Such as volunteer work and what may have been gained from that on a personal level)

These small things have really proven to be successful with some of my best players in my years as a HS coach.

I hope this helps and good luck to you!

My 2 cents regarding NCSA. This pertains to baseball. If money is not an issue then go ahead and pay the $$$. We were contacted and had a consultation with them and they were very informative. However, we choose not to sign up and decided to do it on our own. The good news is that we continued to get emails from them which proved to be helpful.

Coach F gives great advise. Exposure is the key, reach out to many schools DI,DII, DIII & NAIA, go on unofficial visits, attend camps at the schools your daughter is interested in and schools that show interest in her. You soon find out who is serious and who just looking to take your money.

Make sure she takes her academics seriously. Take SAT & ACT early, grades make a huge difference & coaches are more likely to select a student that excels academically.

Good luck!

On a related note...

Perfect Game reports that Georgia has 20 commits from the 2012 class. Arizona State has 22. Florida has 19.

Not all of these kids will end up enrolled at the school they're committed to for various reasons. Having said that, it almost appears as if the fall semester serves as a sort of extended tryout at some of these institutions.
