Recently a Div 1 coach commented that now they gonna have to make offers to HS players much earlier than the summer of 2008, mainly because their competition is doing the same thing. They are getting 2009 grads on visits right now.

If they like a player there now gonna offer them right now and try to get a verbal out of the player.

I agree that this is happening and we experienced it with our '08. I've even heard of some '10's making verbals already, but things can and will change as we've seen with the recent '08 early signees. I'm personally not a fan of the fast paced and agressive recruiting style happening as of late but I do see this as a trend that will be around for the foreseeable future. It means parents and players are going to have to be that much more organized earlier than ever but in the end you still dictate to a large degree the ultimate pace at which you desire to move forward. The better the ball player, the better the student, the more I believe you control your timeline.
As nice as it is to sign early, it can also be much more expensive to do so than waiting. Just look at the extra cost of unofficial visits these players incur if they commit early.

Not to start a “who is forcing the issue” debate again(coaches or players/families), however the fact is early signing is happening and the extra cost to visit a school before doing a verbal commitment is being picked up by the player, not the school. In my son’s signing class, 100% of the players had verbally committed prior to the time they could make official visits. I would also bet that each of them had paid their own way for an unofficial visit prior to making their commitment.

If the NCAA is going to allow early signing to happen maybe they should also allow the official visit schedule to be moved earlier in the process (start Junior year through Senior year). If this could be done the player wouldn't have to burden the cost of unofficial visits that has become part of the recruiting process. Think of the money the colleges are saving by not having to use their full allotment of paid official visit moneys. I’ll go out on limb to say the college program can probably afford the cost much more than the players families can.

It’s a nice problem to have however most of the time it does come with an additional cost.(especially if you are from out of state)

Someone explain the logistics of this to me. My younger brothers travel/scout program has two 2010's that have verabled D-1's.

I know that there cannot be written contact until September of the 11th Grade year, and no phone calls unti July before senior year. So, how are offers made? Is in-person contact "ok" prior to the aforementioned deadlines?

I know our coach knows all of this, but I figured I would post and ask as others might wonder as well.

Thank in advance for your help.
