Refusing an unofficial visit

I would never tell them there in no interest. The reason being you just never know. I would tell them that this simply is not a good time and you appreciate the invitation.

Dear Coach Popeye,

Thank you for your interest in me attending WhatsamattaU and extending an invitation to come and visit your campus.

At this current time I am in the beginning of this recruiting process and am not quite ready to make any visitations.

I want to make sure that when I'm ready to visit a program that it is one that I believe will be the right "fit" for me.

I agree with the above and would add...you never know where that coaching staff will be in a year or so. They may move to a bigger and better program and want your son there.

Never say 'no' until you are committed to a school, IMO

Thanks everyone for your helpful responses. As a parent going through this process for the first time, this site has without a doubt been the best source of information and advice anyone could ask for.

To echo what Redbird said, never tell anybody no until you have told someone yes.

Keep in mind that the school you say no to today may be the only one left standing when the dust clears at a later date

More importantly imo TR the coach you say no to today could be coaching at the school you want to say yes to tomorrow.

IMHO refusing by writing an email as written above has a certain tone that just says "I am not interested." You do just never know where some of these coaches will end up. RC's move around often.

I agree with birdman. Reading between the lines it sounds like "i dont want to go there" and also if you write that you are "not quite ready to make any visitations." , it may come back to bite you if that coach speaks to another coach where you go to visit right now.

First off, take heed to what TR and Coach May say above. It is amazing how these coaching changes DO occur on a yearly basis.

I wrote the sample letter above simply because lhprhp said "they have absolutely no interest in for a wide variety of reasons (size, major not offered, male/female ratio to name a few)" I didn't see the need to sugarcoat it or make the coach wonder. We as parents and players get aggravated when they do it to us during the recruiting process so why not be upfront and honest?

p.s. My sample is not patented. It CAN be tweaked and edited to someone's liking.
