ok...now thaty we know the teams which team will win?

top off bracket
james river vs. atlee
dinwiddie vs deep run

bottom off bracket
cosby vs lee davis
godwin vs matoaca

all teams play monday, then wednesday winners play, final is thursday

looking through results today all teams will have their top pitchers well rested.

as discussed the field is a neutral site and its layout changes the game somewhat.

all tne teams have great number 1 pitchers ...who has the depth it takes to win?

which team loses the most by being on a big field?

how many of the teams have played on this field?

have any teams faced the team tney are playing in the first round?

2 bids to the state tournament are on the table.

Regional Champ gets a home game, runner up travels

What do u think?

I'll give it a try....

JR vs Atlee: Toss-up game. I thought maybe JR turned the corner against Bird in semi's but they didn't look very imposing against Cosby in Dominion Final. I think River has more talent, but Atlee's been hot of late. Could go either way. If I had to pick , I'd go JR

Deep Run vs Dinwiddie: I'll pick the upset here and go with Deep Run. Just not sure Dinwiddie was tested enough this year and they were pretty flat in district tournament

Lee-Davis vs Cosby: They played a tight game earlier this year and Coach Lewis will keep it close again but Cosby wins

Matoaca vs Godwin: I haven't seen Godwin this year, so it's hard to pick this game, but Matoaca is ripping the baseball of late. If they contine that trend, I think they can pull the upset

Final 4: JR vs Deep Run
Cosby vs Matoaca

Final: Deep Run vs Cosby

Champ: Cosby

I'll probably swing and miss on several of these predictions, but that's my take...

When not playing Cosby, James River is 15-1 this year. I take Nate Kirby and JR in that one. I think the team will be looser in a non-Cosby game and I think they win, not a blowout, but maybe a 7-2 kind of game.

Deep Run-Dinwiddie is probably the closest matchup of the day. Deep Run has been very Jekyll & Hyde this year. No way to predict this one until we see which Deep Run team shows up.

Lee-Davis just kind of underwhelms me. I don't see them challenging Cosby, esp. not the way Cosby is playing right now. Possible slaughter game.

I take Matoaca over Godwin because I think Will Brown shuts Godwin down.
Those are all good observations - all the teams have very good #1 pitchers that can give you a chance against anyone... L- has Boze, JR Kirby, Dinwiddie Christopher, Matoaca has Brown, Atlee is Overton, Cosby is Mcqueen, Godwin has Matt Lees, With Deep Run I am unfamiliar.

Not sure which of these teams have faced each other
- Cosby played L-D, Atlee, Matoaca, and James River this year.

Cosby and Matoaca have the most experience at the Diamond as they were the two Regional finalists. JR played a benefit game out the a couple of weeks ago with JR Tucker.

In the first round I think pitching will be good across the board. The winners will be the teams that adjust to covering that big outield. For catchers that are used to playing the short backstops some fields have a passed bill or WP will take on a whole new meaning on a major league sized field.

In second round it becomes a quetion of whether the teams have a good #2 pitcher or the sticks to make up for any drop off.

Three teams are comng off tough losses - Dinwiddie,James River, and Godwin - wil be interesting to see if they answer the bell or stay in the corner.

Will be a fun day to watch the best our region has to offer and see some kids play one more time before they go off to college and take their game to the next level.
JR over Atlee - Pitching, pitching and pitching. Hopefully JR defense shows up for their sake.
DR over Dinwiddie - Deep Run was my early fav, so I'm sticking with them.
Cosby over Lee-Davis - Cosby is peaking at the right time, again.
Matoaca over Godwin - Like Will Brown in this one. Lots of groundballs and strike outs.

DR over JR
Cosby over Matoaca

Cosby over DR

I think I'm in the minority here in thinking the Diamond is a great place to hold regionals. It is comfortable, there is shade, not a bad seat, and plenty of parking. I saw a bunch of VCU games this year, and I thought it was very convenient.
i think lots of folks over look Atlee....they have a good number on pitcher who i believe is going to ODU.

late in the season they played Cosby in a close 4-3 loss.

The also beat out a very good Hanover team- it took a 10 inning tie breaker to settle the District.

i believe strongly you are as good as your competition. In Atlees case the Capital District may have the most depth in the area this year...they battled Hanover,Lee Davis, and a good Henrico team all year.
