Well, it was Fungo's idea (topic) so I thought I would be the first to post.
Oh, you all remember me telling you after Dave's first start this year he tripped on a rock and sprained his right ankle? You all remember he just got a bike?
Appears he was having trouble with the bike seat and asked his host if they had a wrench. He went into the garage couldn't find the light (he hates to ask anyone anything), decided he had enough light, fixed the seat and then twisted his left ankle over something.
Xrays showed no definite break, but the doctor saw something (maybe a hairline fracture), he is in pain, so tomorrow he has an MRI. If it is just sprained he will have PT, if broken he most likely will head home for the summer.
Manager is not happy. Neither is mom and dad. Mad

and both are better than falling off a cliff or something........

Or falling off of your bike!!!!! Now Mr. TPM says if he had his truck he wouldn't have hurt his foot!!!!

No news of any MRI, though DK is feeling a bit better. He has managed to find rides from players.

He did get paid today, so that was the topic of conversation. Smile
Dave has MRI on Monday. Since the team travels he will remain behind with another player who dislocated his shoulder the other night. He was a bit disappointed in the fact that they were headed to PA to play at Penn State's field, certainly one of the best facilities in the league. On the other hand, he is looking forward to a little "chill" time.
Oh, man, that is tough. Sending positive healing thoughts.

A week ago we were listening online to son's summer league game up in Washington state. (My new evening routine between 6:40 and 10!)

Game was going great when the announcer described an injury that my son sustained live as it was happening, along with "they're carrying him off the field now; looks like his knee and appears to be a very serious injury with a lot of pain."

The first time your son has to get medical attention away from home when you're not there. Do some of you remember that situation?

Anyway, he's lucky, no tears, kneecap dislocation and sprain. So, with ice, ibuprophen, physical therapy and a new brace, he was back in it last night, DHing. Seems a little soon to me, but ... I am impressed that he has made the very adult decision of taking control of his own medical care decisions (hard to let go, but I respect his saying he is ready).

24 hours after the injury, we started looking for the silver lining. Besides the grace of his new-found maturity, he also made the important discovery that he needs to be doing specific strengthening for that knee from now on.

Rough start for DK. We'll be hoping to hear what his silver lining is.

Had an evaluation yesterday and is cleared to begin throwing standing on two feet. Thursday will throw a pen to see how it all ties together. He has some concerns about having to make a quick turn on the foot. Kind of frustrated with how slow things move, at school, out of need, it's let's see how fast we can get the player back on the field, here there seems to be no rush.
We had a chance to have a real conversation yesterday and it is interesting to hear his perception and the organization's philosophy. It's interesting to note that every farm system has their own "system" and how they go about things is very different. In his organization, you go ss to low A regular, then high A, etc. In his best friends system he may jump this summer from ss to AA. Also interesting to hear about the makeup of the different teams in terms of new players and players that have already been in the system for a few years. The next level (pro ball) is very interesting, whatever organization you play for will, in the end, determine your development and how fast you move. or don't move.
He misses his friends from school, family and Clemson. He is looking forward to going back in the fall, to be on a familiar campus (his apartment is there) and possibly fall instruction back here in Florida.
Wednesday they begin a 6 day road trip, but he is used to that from school, end of year road trips back to back and tourneys have taught him how to live out of a suitcase.
He got another housemate and he has wheels so the bike has not been used. Smile That's a good thing, IMO.

Thought I would post due to pms I have been receiving.
Dave has left Batavia.
Between the ankle and now tendinitous in upper arm it was decided to bring him to Jupiter to work with him to correct any mechanical issues created by the sore ankle. One of the reasons why they wanted him to wait until the ankle was pain free. With a rush to get back on the mound to help out the team and finally get going, it just wasn't working and he was becoming frustrated. With coaches and managers into full season and a busy trainer attending to bumps and bruises, they felt it best to head to the rehab facility.
Not sure if he will return, if he is ok after 2-3 weeks he most likely will do rehab innings in rookie league to get ready for fall instrux.

The best part is no more bike and back in his truck. Smile
