does it do just as much good to fill out recruit question form on college team page as it does to write a letter? i would think thats what they put it there for

I would do both and have your son call a coach if he is very interested in the coaches program.

IMHO writing/sending an email or a phone call is a much more personal form of communication than filling out a form that you don't know who is looking at.

Speaking to a coach, and performing well on the field at a camp or showcase is the best form of communicaton.

Best of luck.

Varhp, I feel your pain...and had to laugh a little. Been there... We have two sons. For one, I was secretary/typist/organizer/profile drafter, etc. He loved baseball and really wanted to get to college ball. A charming loveable bright guy, but organization and details just weren't his thing. Son # 2 wrote his own letters, prepared his own profile, pretty much handled it all. I mainly watched him go.

Both "got there", played college ball, had nice college careers, graduated, and have jobs.

Some folks on this board will feel it's a mortal sin if the parent helps too much, but hey, we're all parents, we do stupid parent things, so if you need to jump in a little, what the heck, go for it.
