Wow - it's nice to be out of Korea and back in the good ol' USA for some Texas-style baseball.
Most impressed with:
'08 David Wright from Aleto, TX. Complete package including a great baseball attitude that lifts his teammates. Definitely headed for bigger things.
'08 Ryan Akins from Flower Mound. Very smooth, confident, solid all around.
I didn't watch the other game between Red and Royal, so may have missed more, but Wright is definitely a HOT prospect.
As for my son:
Rose-colored-glasses version: he was among the elite at the event and stood out head and shoulders above the rest.
With RCG removed: he's got some work to do to keep pace with his Stateside competition! He's hanging in there, K'd two and gave up just one hit in his two innings on the mound today, but couldn't have hit a beachball today at the plate. However, it is very clear that being stuck in Korea due to dad's job necessitates that he work harder than everyone to keep pace.
Obviously these boys in Texas can play some ball and if we take anything away from this experience it is that he was able to see where he needs to be to really compete. He just turned 15, so still a good couple of years to work..........and he says he's ready to go full-bore to be among the elite next showcase. Maybe he's finally maturing to the point where he is beginning to understand the difference between a dream and a goal.......
Sorry, just have to air it out as my wife doesn't like the baseball talk
