have missed many a post since son off to college-
but still like to check in.

tried to read the entire thread on 8-5A and was
surprised not to see any mention of the retirement
of D'Ville head coach.

dmn had small article- not really justice to the
long career he had stretching from amarillo to
kimball, r.l. turner and then d'ville.

there will be a tribute before this friday nite's
game and i am told that many of his old friends
and players will be there.

i got to call Bob Rombach the 'geezer coach' in
print for two years and he did not get mad. i
know that is not what drove him to retirement.

recall reading, on this site, about 2 years ago-
anon. from houston writing to the effect that
'Rombach was a dinosaur and out of touch with his
players'. it's difficult to respond to anon.
posters; i guessed it was someone who knew nothing
of Rombach's 'Program', or possibly had a son who
just did not make the starting 9.

just my opinion (we had three sons go thru his
'program) but- you would be hard-pressed to find
another coach who knew how to create and maintain
a baseball 'program' where the players knew how to act when they put on their spikes, who showed respect on and off the field, who understood
discipline and learned how to play the game right.

see ya at the ball yard; friday nite.

His record as it ties in with the legend of Duncanville baseball speaks for itself. Through changing times, this man has remained synonymous with baseball in the metroplex. The DMN did an article recently on Coach Higgins from LH -- 40 years and going strong. Coach Rombach was mentioned in the article as one of the long-time coaches with several HUNDRED wins. Somtimes change is good -- and I imagine Coach R will welcome the new energy that his replacement will bring to the program. I'm glad the team, boosters, and friends will take time to honor this man.

Nice to see your post, Coop. Maybe now, they'll build that team a field! Wink

Congratulations, Coach Rombach, on an outstanding career. Smile
