After throwing with my 13 year old son a couple of weeks ago, he had pain in his upper rib cage under his throwing arm and he says it feels like something is “popping” in his upper rib cage area. The pain is gradually subsiding, but he still feels/hears “popping”. Does anyone have any experience with this or know what’s going on? He hasn’t thrown since it happened, any other suggestions? Thanks much.

Trich, you're going to find a lot of people on here who will give you sincere, quality advice. Many of them have already been farther down the road than you have with your son, since their boys play either college or professional baseball at this time. They are a great resource, and hopefully you'll recognize them as such.

With that in mind, you might want to reconsider your opinion about how people trying to help you respond. PIAA is an outstanding individual when it comes to helping others, and I think you misinterpreted his message, badly. It does seem obvious that if your son doesn't have this happen all the time, and it hurts, that it needs attention. If his doctor doesn't think it is serious, maybe you should see a sports medicine professional, if your son intends to keep throwing a baseball, that is.
Trich,
If you took my answer to be sarcastic, it most certainly was not intended to be so....In manner of explanation I found in your post, two items of concern...the 2 things I was referring to were pain and an unusual popping in the ribcage.....

Pain (not soreness) is always something to be looked into........and a popping in the ribcage...

which I have never heard of and I have had a few broken ribs and never experienced a popping sound.....

My advice was to have him seen by a doctor.......but in a subsequent post it seems you have already done that.......

My last thought in the matter, is that if you arent satisfied in the answer you received from this doctor, get another opinion......It is worth it for your piece of mind....

Again, my apologies if you felt I was short with you, it was not intended to be so. Best of luck to your son.
