the handfulls and Flutters require a login/password - are these "members only?" Like the videos with the med balls, too

IMHO, there is no need to pay good money to see a couple of video clip demonstrations. Check out this link--great demonstrations of all types of exercises, including rice bucket drills; and they are FREE!!!

Has anyone tried both?? Is there a difference in the amount of energy requied to do exercises?? i.e. Does one or the other offer more resistance? Different types of beans??? I can see it now: "Lima Beans are over rated!!!" "More bag for your buck with Pinto Beans!!" Wink Wink
Seriously, I wonder if there would be a noticable difference..I'm thinking that the smaller the medium [rice/lentils] the more resistance is offered, due to less airspace between grains. Not that it really matters - as long as they do the exercises.
What has worked well for us is all of the above with combinations. First beans, then rice and beans (now I'm hungry), then rice, then rice & sand, and finally sand.

At one point we had 5 buckets, one of each in our office, but we have done away with the first and last one because our athletes found the straight beans too easy and the straight sand too hard.

As for the clean up, put a heavy duty garbage bag over the top of the bucket and secure it with rubber bands around the top. Cut a slit in the middle that an arm can go through and you won't have to deal with spillage. Downside, you can't get a good view of what the athlete is doing so you need to be able to trust them enough...
