Matt McGuire will coach the Roanoke College baseball team, athletics director Scott Allison announced on Friday.
McGuire replaces Larry Wood at the helm of the Maroons. Wood retired after the 2012 season.
"We are very pleased to have Matt join our program," Allison said in a news release. "His baseball pedigree, coupled with his knowledge of both the ODAC and Roanoke Valley baseball scenes, allow us to hit the ground running.
"Matt stands ready to lead our program to new heights, on and off the field."
McGuire, a graduate of William Byrd High School, played college baseball at William & Mary and was an assistant to coach Marlin Ikenberry at VMI.
He spent three season as an assistant coach at Ferrum and another season as an assistant at Randolph Macon.
"I am extremely pleased to be coming home to the Valley and landing my first head coaching position at Roanoke College," the Vinton native said in the release. "I feel this program is a sleeping giant. I am very anxious to get started."
