Roberto Clemente

Almost had me in tears.

I am Puerto Rican and I remember playing at the field in Carolina where he played. I love the island and there is alot of pride. Clemente means alot to us and I am so proud of what he was and for what he stood for.

Clemente will always be a part of me.

When is it on again?

Roberto Clemente is a legend, he is the pride of all latinamerica people. Clemente have growed out of the Puerto Rico's border to become a whole world hero.

And the greatest arm from RF in the history of MLB, in my opinion.

If this is the documentary that has Jimmy Smits as the narrator, FOX sports Pittsbugh, runs this during every rain delay.........and I never tire of watching it..........just as I never go to PNC without going by the statue.......

I think it was Tim McCaver who was commenting on Clemente and he said if an outfielder with a good arm was said to have a "gun" then Clementes arm should have been called a howitzer.

Thats my opinion.

Clemente was about alot more than just "tools", it was the way he played the game that captured this kid's imagination. It just looked to me as if he really understood the joy of playing.

Years ago - my eldest son played two summers for the Roberto Clemente All-Stars. The team was comprised of kids from around the USA. (One of which was Andrew McCutcheon - always my favorite).

They would play at the big stadium - (Hiram Bithorn) and then go into the mountains and play on some hard core fields in Rio Alta ,Rio Baja and Bayamon. Hard core games - and then afterwards - the townspeople would cook for everyone. Every single game. Just a great experience.

The biggest thrill - both summers - was when we got to spend time with Vera Clemente - Roberto's wife.

We had some fun times - and she was always great with the players.

Roberto Clemente and his wife Vera - will always be heroes to us.

This post is very timely for me, because when I started thinking about doing this net radio show, the person I thought I'd most like to interview is Vera Clemente.......I need to find a contact....we could have it as a fundraiser-show for her org......
