anybody got a good story to share on that one?? Middle son wanted to watch game at oldest son's house. Then he calls me when the Royals are getting killed, 'might as well go home and go to bed"... by the time I get over there the Royals are beginning to rally in the 8th... so about 6 of us Royals fans stood and watched and hollered ourselves red in the face in what has to be the greatest game in KC baseball history. glad i saw it

I would think game 7 in 1985 would rank higher than last night. But last night was pretty exciting.
As a Mizzou fan, there is a Mizzou message board I have followed for a while, and there are quite a few Royal fans that post there. It's been pretty cool watching their excitement build over the last few months, after what they have been through.
Eighth inning. Twitter is blowing up. One of my baseball friends is going crazy on Facebook, Stealing third on a lefty? Crazy! My poor kid who is buried in homework keeps texting me for updates. Wife walks into the room and looks at the TV for a minute.
Wife: A's and Dodgers?
Me: A's and Royals.
Wife: Looks like the Dodgers. What's the difference?
Me: Royals are American League.
Wife: Why do they wear the same color? That's Dodger blue.
Me: Dodger blue is a little lighter I think.
Wife: It's the same. Maybe you need to adjust the TV.
I am a long suffering Royals fan. I lived across the street from Royal's Stadium (sorry - I can't call it Kaufman) in 76-79. Went to every home game. Got there when the gates opened with my sack lunch and sat front row down the right field line for the GA price of $1.75. I was able to attend every game of the '85 W/S. I got an email the day before the game letting me know I had been picked throught their lottery draw to be able to buy tickets to last nights game, but had to do so before 5pm. I didn't check my email until later that night. It's a 10 hour drive, so I'm not completely positive I would have bought the tix, but I like to think I would have.
I was feeling quite low as the eighth inning started, especially knowing that when given a 3-run lead after 6 innings, teams with lester on the mound have been 85-1. If the Royals had lost that game, I wouldn't have really felt like the playoff drought had truly been broken.

Actually, to me, game six of that series and game six of the ALCS that year vs. Toronto rank right up there.
It was tough watching Yost almost single-handley blow it for KC... Glad they came through though... Moss came to play last night though! Wow!

Yeah. I was at a loss. This was why you went out two years ago and got Shields. PLus, to me, this was all-hands-on-deck, which meant there were several better options than a rookie starter with practically no experience like this. I love ventura, but this was an impossible situation for him. Why not go ahead and bring in Hererra now and worry about the seventh and eighth innings later. A similar move was bringing in Finnegan. Yost didn't take any flack over that move only becuase it worked out. However, his overall game plan was pretty sound. I was expecting a 2-1 or 1-0 type of game. Wow!
The Royals in the playoffs? Must be a sign of the apocalypse. 
BTW, how are oven mitts legal? Don't they allow the baserunner to get an extra step? Would the 12th inning steal by Colon have been successful without the mitt?
Another funny thing, if you really analyze it closely. The botched first and third move in the first may have been what won the game for the Royals. Forcing Norris into the game behind the plate was what allowed most of the later maneuvers to work. Without his weak arm, I doubt they go 7/7 in steals.
What a game! Had everything. It will be hard to top that one but as the stakes get higher, something else will happen.
About the 8th inning, my wife decided to plop down on the couch next to me with her laptop, searching for an apple tart recipe. She insisted I look at every picture and give my opinion. Did you know there are over a thousand different ways to make a da$#m apple tart? Finally, in the 12th inning, I started explaining to her how both teams played 162 games to get to this point, how it's been 30 years since KC, etc., etc. As the last words came out of my mouth "and it all comes down to this", the ball left Perez' bat.

I originally thought it must have been a mistake. Heck, we stooped trying that at after 12u.
I'd also add that Salvy's swing must be the ugliest swing to ever win an elimination game.
Makes all the wrong decisions, but won anyway...

After much thought I am ranking my Royals all time great games as this:
1. Brett's blast off Gossage (80) that ended the stranglehold the Yankees had on us.
2. Last night... once again, a drought is over, the playoffs are acheived
3. Game 6 85 Series (cards fans still don't like it
4. Game 6 over Toronto... Jim sundberg to the rescue
5. Alex Gordons walk off this September... that is ignoring a lot of baseball between 1986 and 2013... but really a lot of it is very forgetable.
Playoff baseball is always awesome... but when a team you LOVE is in it, it is so much more alive.

All I can say despite Yost's horrible decisions. Speed Kills with out those steals no way do the Royals score those catch up runs in the 8th.

I think what is sometimes lost, though, is that managing at the mlb level isn't as much about offensive strategies/managing pitching rotations, etc. as it is about managing 25-40 millionaire egos and developing relationships. I'm not saying Yost is any better at that, either, but...I think, for example, I and 90% of the people on this site could do a better job of managing the Royals on the field, but what about the rest of the job?

What a great game. Amazing how the Royals fought back including getting sabotaged by their own manager to boot and overcame it. And beating Lester.
