My son signed with a JUCO for his Freshman year, what are the rules of contacting a D-1 thru 3 by player or coach for next season and what are some recomondations? He has received a lot of interest after a successful summer and some schools(D3) wanted him to transfer for the Spring. We or they have made no contact since school started, what is a good plan of action?

I would honor the comitment that you made to your current team for at least the season. Knock the cover off the ball (if you are a position player) and take advantage of the opportunity that your current coach has provided.

If you son is that good he will probably start and play every inning of every game. The same may not hold true for a D-1 (or D-2 and D-3) opportunity.

If you son is interested in playing baseball, it is a lot more enjoyable when you are in the line up every game.

If teams are still interested in making you an offer after the spring, discuss this with your coach during the (end of season)exit interview. I see no problem with moving on after you have lived up to your comitment of playing JUCO this season.

Is the JUCO a strong D-1 JUCO? If so, you may be able to build yourself an opportunity to transfer into a strong D-1 or D-2 program.

If it about the education, then I can see the desire to transfer ASAP, however I would still honor your initial comitment to your current JUCO.

I would agree with last poster and honor the committment of this year.My own guy left a Juco after one year, but with that said many Juco coaches do not want you to leave after one year.If you contact another coach, most will not proceed to recruit without the Juco coaches ok.Its an unspoken rule, but be careful.See what kind of playtime he gets this year, and how he does.If he has an incredible year, and he wants to leave be honest with Juco coach. The Jucos feed into the 4 year schools, many 4 year coaches rely on them for players, so the 4 year coaches do not want to step on toes.I was told this by every 4 yeqar school that we visited. They had got permission to recruit.
