I'll vouch for you on that one jarthur. If the coach I ran into last month is the same coach that you're talking about then your assessment of him is right on the mark.

My daughter's travel softball team played a double-header on a Saturday in mid-September on the field just west of Prairie Ridge's varsity baseball field. As our game was getting underway I noticed plenty of activity on the adjacent baseball field.

The coach, I believe he was the coach you're referring to here, had organized a work party consisting of his players and they were grooming that field like there was no tomorrow. They did a meticulous and excellent job. Even the baseball players who also play football were there...banged up and coming in from their game the night before.

I was very impressed with the coach, his concern for his facilities, and his ability to marshall the team to take care of the task. It was obvious to me that he is running a true baseball program at the school...with their efforts to work on the field it demonstrated a team, from top to bottom, that has a tremendous amount of pride and camaraderie.

The coach was wearing a Prairie Ridge football cap so I assume that he may also be an assistant football coach. I spoke with him briefly...he was quite friendly...appears to be a really good guy.

Been:

I did call the AD's office and was fortunate enough to speak with her secretary...as far as the secretary knows there is no truth to this rumor....none whatsoever.

She did verify that the coach I met was indeed Coach Pecoraro.

ATTEMPT AT HUMOR. APPARENTLY, POOR ATTEMPT. I must be getting too old when I can post that on a thread entitled "Rumors" and no one gets it. LOL! (FYI, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rumours )

Ok so seriously, even as far south as I am, everyone knows what Coach Peceraro has done at Prarie Ridge. Hope this is, as with most rumors, just that.

Coach B, Great album. Now that's a word that has disappeared. A vinyl record album, not a CD or anything to do with an IPod. Just a great record.

My son loves 'my' music and while he also listens to what's happening now, here in Chicago his radio is tuned to 97.1 The Drive. At least I did something right in rasing him.
CoachB25,

Now there you go again. You say you want your freedom. Well who am I to bring you down....

Here's a blast from the past, I had the 8-track (and still do somewhere at home!). Luckily, I replaced it with the CD....

But I digress, I guess since the topic is about Pec, I should probably say something about him. He definately does something right because he always seems to get the most out of each of his players and is regularly in the hunt for conference, sectional and regional titles.

All trademarks of a very good coach. Prairie Ridge, and the baseball players in the district, are fortunate to have him!

For the program and players at Prairie Ridge I am saddened to hear this rumor confirmed.

From what I have read here, along with my brief encounter with Coach Pecoraro, I'm sure he is moving on to a good situation...hopefully.

And Playball2 it was thoughtful of you to refer to all of us as gentlemen.

Please fill us in with the details if you're able.

Thanks.

I hope that this decision came from Coach Peceraro's heart and not from any other pressures. Coaching is not an easy thing. It is not easy on a person's health and certainly it isn't easy on a coach's family. I wish Coach Peceraro all the best! Story - I had a former player stop playing -- hated college coach. His Dad called me and wanted me to talk to this young man. I did. I told him that his unhappiness stemmed from not playing the game he loves so much and that he didn't stop playing on his terms. I hope Coach Peceraro is doing so on his terms. JMHO! GOOD LUCK COACH!
playball2, didn't mean anything negative by my comments as I have known him as a coach and as a man of character. Yes he ran one of the best programs in the state and no doubt he resigned on his own terms. Just hate to see one of the best leave. As far as man of character anyone that knows Glen, played with him or against him should have no any doubt on that statement, he is definately a man of character.

Pec has always respected the umpires, and the respect is very mutual. When an umpire takes the field at Ridge (or at Naper Cent, SC East, Neuqua or Dundee Crown among others), there is an element that makes a good umpire go that extra mile. I can't explain it, but it's not the same as when you have coaches not in control of their kids, or yelling at every questionable call, or questioning things they shouldn't. Something about these programs bring umpires to a higher level.
Prairie Ridge is a quality baseball program due to the efforts of Coach Pec and his staff. Hopefully whoever takes the job, I'm guessing at this point of the year it will be someone in house or an interim coach, will continue that success. They have built a reputation of being a strong program the last few years. Echoing the umpiring comments, it does make sense that it is easy to umpire at a place where the coaches respect the umpires and lay off the petty stuff. However as coaches we also appreciate when the umpires lay off the petty stuff as well. I've heard umpires say I'm great to get along with and then I've heard umpires say I am terrible to get along with. It all goes both ways as most umpires would agree.

Thanks for the link to the article.

The coach's decision makes sense to me...perhaps in a few short years he can get back at it.

Being a good coach is a tough and time consuming job...it sounds like he devoted an extraordinary amount of everything to Prairie Ridge's very successful program.

I wish Coach Pecoraro much success in his pursuits.

cubsfan14,

I have seen at least four PR games, since my son played in the FVC, and cannot recall an outburst at the umps from Coach Pecoraro. I haven't seen every PR game so I will not say what you alledge did not happen. I can't recall any of my son's coaches not having a word or two with the ump at some point in time.

What I do know is Coach Pecoraro worked at developing his players, creating a cohesive team, and consistently competing for conference, sectional and regional titles. He didn't just take what talent he was handed, hit a few fungos, toss a little bp and call it a "practice". He ran a tight ship with structured practices and workouts similar to what you encounter in college, taking the average player and elevating his game and being the most successful in the FVC at moving his players to the next level.

You may have a point with the PR parents but I will be honest and say our parents were just as bad. As I said, I never saw Pecoraro or his players out of line but then that's irrelevant compared to what he accomplished in his ten years of coaching at PR. I guess you and I will just have to agree to disagree on that point.
Cubsfan....

Being from Barrington and seeing most of those Sectional Games over the years here in Barrington, I'd say the fact that Prairie Ridge never won the Sectional had nothing to do with who was coaching the team. Yes, C-G and CL Central have had nice teams that managed to win the Sectional, but those teams had nothing on some of the Prairie Ridge Teams that lost in Sectionals. And it wasn't he Coach's fault.

Sometimes it has to do with who is there with you. PR had a couple of outstanding teams make it to the Sectional and there were some excellent teams waiting for them there. St. Charles with their excellent pitcher one year and twice Barrington with excellent teams and starting pitchers. PR could have won those just as easily as not. With all due respect to C-G, they won sectional last year, but it wasn't nearly as tough as it had been in most previous years. They had a great year and won so give them credit, but it say it is about the coach at PR is wrong. Those teams Pecararo had in previous years would have mopped up in 2006. Everythign I ever saw out of that coach was outstanding. If you want to crticize coaches, a couple of years ago several C-G kids were on this site were very critical of the way your coach handled his pitchers in the Sectional after they lost.
