I am reading the new 2013 Rulebook. Rule8-2 BASERUNNING AWARDS TABLE. There are two colums 1. No of bases awarded and 2. Determined from the time of:

Under No. BASES AWARDED

ONE BASE (batter)
#5 Runner interference (unintentional)

Under Determined at the time of:
#5 Pitch

I just don't get runner interference and awarding a base?????

Well, I can see how it would be confusing. Not much explanation provided.

Basically, the batter is awarded 1 base from TOP (1B is his award). The runner who interfered is not awarded a base but the batter is if the INT was not intentional. This is true for any ruleset.

It applies when a runner is out for being hit by (i.e., unintentionally interfering with) a batted ball. The ball is dead and batter is awarded a single.
