As i pitcher i have been told to run alot, to keep the blood flowing to and through my arm during the season. Is this a true statement, because running long distances or for long time periods can lengthen muscles, which i need my muscles to stay short and explosive. Can somebody if i should run a lot during the season or just keep working out???

Running is a common technique used for arm recovery because, as you pointed out, it increases blood flow throughout the body - including the arm - without using the arm. Blood flow delivers the nutrients that are vital to recovery. You do eat nutrionally, don't you?

It sounds like you're really asking about the quantity of running that is appropriate. I can tell you that at my kids' high school, the pitchers run one pole for every inning pitched plus one immediately after the game. (A pole is a jog from one outfield pole to the other and back.) Then they do some jogging the next day at practice as well though I'm not sure of the distance.
