This is more a vent than anything else. My 06's team has six seniors on it. Our last game of the season, a home game, was scheduled for today. Two days ago, just before the start of the next-to-last game, our coach got word that the team our team was scheduled to play would forfeit today's game and wasn't showing up. This is a league game, the opposing team is very weak (0-fer on the season) and they cancelled/forfeited the other game scheduled against them as well. We are not the only team they've done this to, but we're the only team--as far as I know--that has cancelled both games. So the senior parents at Wednesday's game didn't realize they were watching their kid's last game--probably at all, as our team finished fourth in league and has only a remote shot at an at-large berth in the playoffs. I feel so bad for the seniors and their parents. The boys are playing today anyway, a scrimmage against the JV and we're getting balloons and doing all the stuff we would normally do, but it's just not the same. My kid is only a soph but I'm still furious for the kids and their parents. What's with teams that can't even show up???? Thanks for listening.

We had the same problem... our last game was scheduled for a Tuesday night and our opponent was about the same as yours. They cancelled Monday morning!!! Luckily we had a game scheduled for Monday night too and we just put it in high gear, called all the senior parents and made it happen. I was really proud of the way we were able to pull it together at the last minute (literally). The local papers were able to change their plans too so everything worked out. It was probably for the best that way in our case. By the time I got everything organized I was too tired to be too teary eyed on the field!
Sorry your special night did not turn out as good. I'm sure that did put a damper on the end of the season.
