Bobby Stone Bobby Stone LHP/1B 6’2’’ 210 Montgomery HS
Bobby comes to Sam Houston State after spending 4 years under head coach Clint Heard at Montgomery High School. In 2007 Stone hit .476 with 12 2B’s, 6 3B’s, 4 HR’s while driving in 40. Bobby also posted a 7-1 record with a .94 era. Bobby was a member of the Texas Area Code team where Baseball America voted him the “Best Power Prospect” in the country. Bobby was also voted on of the top 20 players in the state of Texas for the 2008 class. He was the Newcomer of the Year 2005 for district 18-4A and the MVP of the Sophomore Sunbelt National Tournament. Bobby has also been named All State by the Coaches Association in 2005, 2006, and 2007.
Sean Weatherford Sean Weatherford RHP/OF 6’1’’ 165 Bryan HS
Sean is a RHP/OF from Bryan High School. Like Stone, Weatherford was selected to compete at the Area Code Games in Long Beach, California for the Chicago White Sox team. Sean was a 1st Team All-District performer for Coach David Powers at Bryan High School. Sean Struck out 38 hitters in 40 innings of work in 2007. Sean struck out 42 in 36 innings of work this summer for the Houston Sox while only allowing 4 runs and walking 8. Sean is the Nephew of Duke Pitching Coach Sean Snedeker.
Tyler Lundy Tyler Lundy OF 6’1’’ 180 Iowa Western College
Tyler was a standout performer in his 1st year at Iowa Western College under Head Coach Mark Rardin. In his freshman campaign Tyler helped his team reach the NJCAA World Series while hitting .378 with 17 2B’s, 1 3B, 17HR’s while driving in 63. For his efforts Tyler was selected to play in the National Junior College All-Star Game held in Millington, Tenn. Tyler helped the West All-Stars to a series win while hitting .462 on the weekend. In high school Tyler was a pre-season Louisville Slugger All-American and was named the Gatorade Player of the Year in North Dakota.
Jon Reed
Jon Reed INF 6’0’’ 185 Iowa Western College
Jon also hails from Iowa Western College and is originally from Omaha, Nebraska. Jon was a key player in Iowa Westerns NJCAA World Series run in 2007. Jon anchored Iowa Western infield while posting a .340 average and was a perfect 14 for 14 in stolen base attempts. In HS Jon was also a pre-season Louisville Slugger All-American and was an All-State player from the state of Nebraska.
Jordan Westra
Jordan Westra RHP 6’5’’ 205 Kellogg Community College
Jordan helped lead Coach Laskovy’s Bruins to a NJCAA Division II World Series appearance. Westra posted a 1.71era in 2007 while working 41 innings and striking out 38. He posted a 5-1 record for Kellogg Community College. Jordan is originally from Kalamazoo, Michigan
Chase Daniel Chase Daniel OF 6’4’’ 200 Oak Ridge HS
Chase was an All-District CF this past year at Oak Ridge High School for Coach Scheiner in Conroe Texas. Chase posted a .360 average with 2 HR’s in his 2007 campaign. During the summer Chase competes with the Houston Heat organization headed by Phil Cross.
Nino Leyja
Nino Leyja INF 5’11’’ 170 Houston Christian HS
Nino Leyja had been a fixture for Houston Christian baseball the past 2 years. In 2007 Nino hit.467 with 7HR’s and stole 43 bases. In the summer of 2007 Nino was selected to play in the Texas Scouts Association game played at Minute Maid Ball Park. Like Daniel, Leyja also competes with the Houston Heat during the summer.
