This guy's legs were enormous! His calves were as big as my head. And I have a huge head! Anyhow, he strictly worked on his legs and he was definitely moving some weight.

FYI to all of you pitchers out there.

Prior is a follower of Tom House's conditioning and biomechanical theories. House is an interesting guy, talks about core strength, functional strength (as opposed to muscle stregth) and working to strengthen joint tissues so they can withstand the wear and tear of the repetitive violent pitching motion.

House's stuff always sounded pretty logical to me, but I always wondered why Prior was on the DL so much.
My son also has worked with the Tom House program. He's not a pitcher, but a good friend and former LL coach of my son's is a Tom House protoge (as a coach, not a player) and has started a pitcher training academy (http://www.bioforcebaseball.com) in the Portland area.

A few years ago my son and I attended a small clinic with House. His conditioning principles seem very logical to me. The mechanical stuff.... well, my kid is a catcher, so I don't worry too much about it, but I'm aware there is some controversy. But I've watched A LOT of the training, from both House and my friend, been through frame by frame video, etc. The biomechanical stuff sure seems to me to be valid.

But as I say, his pitching days are over, now that he's in high school and they don't just put every strong arm in the rotation.
