Actually, what they had was efficient swings......And, yes, it's been looked at alot by at least a few.......
All MLB hitters rotate.....The key is to rotate with connection.....This is where power and consistency comes from.....Some do it better than others......
Almost every mlb player is rotational, whether power hitter or singles hitter.

I studied Gwynn and talked to Mike Epstein about Gwynn. Gwynn's quote I remember was" When I stride to hit my front foot moves on its own there is no weight transfer". At first blush it would seem he is staying back. Actually he diod get down early with balance but pushed and extended his rear leg to get into the front side to block the turn out on away pitches because he wanted to oppo. Epstein said Gwynn was a front foot hitter. In truth he probably was............but maybe depending on what he wanted the ball to . Ishcero has made that move famous
