My son has made two visits, one to a D3 school and one to an NAIA school. Both schools have said they would like him to be a part of their team next year but the coach at the NAIA school hasnt offered any money yet but sent a note saying if there is anything he can do to make this happen to let him know. Should my son ask for scholly money or wait and see if the coach evetually offers?

Cheech, welcome to the most knowledgeable website that I have personally found to be of benefit to us parents during this, um, stressful and fun time.

During the talks, visits, etc. with the NAIA school that my son signed with recently it seemed to me that the coach actually appreciated our questioning and forthrightness with him on certain topics including the money aspect. He did bring up to us first that he was going to work up a package and call us which is exactly what he did.

You could possibly call him back and let him know that your son is very interested (if in fact he is) in attending and playing at that school and would he with that knowledge be willing to work up a package?
If he says yes, then I would ask when could you possibly expect to hear back from him? (if you don't, you and your family will bounce off the walls waiting!) When the offer comes back I would go over it with the coach and ask him what it does/doesn't include, i.e. tuition, meal plan, room & board, fees, etc. etc.

It seemed like the more I did my homework and asked questions, the more he appreciated my questions.

Btw...there really isn't a "out of line" during this process IMHO. These coaches are use to this line of questioning and most likely expect it.

Sounds to me like him sending that note that he is ready to make something happen if you are....

Good luck and let us know how it goes!!
