Also, here is a statement that the Gavora family released to the local media ....

"As the parents of Chris Gavora, the Grapevine High School pitcher, who tragically passed away Saturday due to injuries sustained during baseball practice, we like to extend our thanks and appreciation to the faculty & staff of Grapevine High School; the Colleyville paramedics; the doctors, nurses and staff of Parkland Hospital; his Mustang teammates; our many friends and relatives; and the good people of the Dallas – Ft. Worth Metroplex for the care, compassion, and kindness they have shown us during this most difficult time. North Texans are truly big-hearted and the outpouring of support has been overwhelming.

We are a recently retired military family and new to the area; having arrived in August 2006. Our son was a normal teenager in most respects. He was sensitive, fun-loving, did well in school, was respectful of others, and a good ballplayer. He loved life, and people; and cared deeply for the welfare of others. In a final act of selflessness, Chris recently volunteered to become an organ & tissue donor. Because of his gifts, multiple organ transplants have now been successfully completed around the region and country including that to a 10-year old girl in Arkansas who received his heart with mere hours to live.

Our family is, as you might expect, in great pain and we already miss him terribly. We are, however, people of faith who will, in time, recover from this terrible tragedy. Today, we mourn his death, but certainly honor his memory."

Grapevine playing with heavy hearts

Great article about the Grapevine team that returned to field for first time since player's tragic death, and the wonderful support for Chris's friends and family from our community. The outpouring generousity from people continues to amaze me.

Please continue to pray for his family and team.
