I was wondering what happens when a kid is given a scholarship for baseball and attends during fall semester. Lets for example say he is getting 25% scholarship at State U where full tuition/room/board is $20,000 per year. State U has a history of over recruiting and the kid in our example had a bad fall and coaches have told him he won't be on travel roster and should transfer to JC. The kid leaves State U at the end of fall semester.

What happens with scholarship money? My guess is that the program would keep $2,500 of the offered $5,000 {25% of $20,000}. Would this credit than help to balance any over recruiting to get school back in line with 11.7? Is routinely done to balance books after having brought in large recruiting class?

Thanks in advance

Do D1 schools have to always be below 11.7? I was wondering if they are audited every semester/day/week/month. In my example they basically ran off a kid if this was premeditated then while they gave him 25% in essence he only got 12.5%. I know they don't plan this specifically with a kid but if they over recruit is this something that will happen to some kids, sort of like tryout where you get cut? So they may have committed 50 25%in the fall scholarships knowing full well that say 25 kids would be run off which in the end would total roughly 12 scholarships
