Son (2012) was offered very very good scholorship to commit early. I am concerned to how much the percentages normally decrease for the remaining three years? With the assumption that he continues playing at the expected level, has no injuries, and grades are fine. College is high and we just need to know what to be expecting after he makes his decision. Thanks.

BBB08 - I asked each coach that offered both of my sons scholarships what their policy was on renewal.

Nearly all said that their university would not allow them to decrease scholarships based on athletic performance. A few hemmed and hawed...neither son went to those schools.

All reserved the right to reduce or remove a scholarship based on academic performance or serious misconduct.

Ask the question up front. You can learn a lot by either the straightforward answer they give you...or...by the lack of a clear answer.

Good luck!

You would not expect the scholarship to decrease over time. Ethical programs will usually honor their comitments to players, some even in the event that an injury prevents them from setting foot on the field.

That was to be the case for our son who required significant knee surgery heading into his Senior HS year. The program that he signed with indicated that even if he were never able to play baseball for their program they would honor his scholarship for all 4 years.

College don't care about giving a medical waiver as it does not count towards the 11.7. Football players yearly have to give up the game due to injuries regularly as their schollies are honored withno problems as they don't count towards the 85.
