2017 was asked to come for an unofficial visit to a school on his top 10 list. He had TJ surgery back in May and is in the middle of he recovery throwing program which is going well. Would it be better for him to put off the visit until he is throwing bullpens again and his velocity is back up to before injury level or does that not really make a difference at this point.

He won't work out at all during an unofficial (or official) visit.  In fact, unless he's attending a camp that you're paying to attend, it is a violation for him to workout with them.

So,  unless he's in a sling, all he's going to do is get a tour, meet with the staff and have a chance to talk, and possibly get an offer during the visit.  Also, you could get three tickets to attend a game while there (whatever sport may happen to be playing at home during the visit.

So any health issue would be a non factor during the visit.  Obviously, as TPM is alluding to, full disclosure on your son's  health is definitely in order if they aren't already aware.

Thanks, yes no sling. Almost done with his throwing program and will start bullpens in a month or two. As far as the health disclosure, should he be mentioning the TJS when he is filling out Questionnaires?

Always disclose medical information.

If the coach asked him to attend an unofficial and it works, definitely go for it.  They want to check him out and you need to do the same..the process had begun!!!!

If it is a D1 he will never work out or try out on a visit.

Good luck!

Is he visiting campus during the Christmas break?  Unless you have to travel far and need the time, the best time to visit is when there are students on campus.  You and your son will get a better feel.  Try to get to a basketball game, if you can, since it that time of year.  If you have already been on the campus, go any time that works.

Keewartson did an unofficial visit at one school during the summer.  Not the best time to visit for the reason above.
