In a situation where a fielder tries to make a play on a runner other than the batter and that runner ends up safe would be this type of scenario.  So say the batter hits an easy out ground ball to short, the runner on third breaks for home (possibly IAMTHATGUY's son so the jump was clearly great) and the runner at home is safe.   If the SS threw to first the batter would have been out so it's not a hit.  It's also not an error as the SS was trying to make a play and didn't make an error, the runner was just safe.  I think the only way to score that would be a fielder's choice, no out.  It can't be a hit for the batter.  That would be my explanation.
