My son is invited to try out for a Scout team next weekend. My son did not think to ask the manager questions, he just said yes. Not sure whats it about. Anyone have any experience with scout ball? Do they do any instruction, or is it all games? Is it worth taking time off from a travel team to play? This is just a tryout, I dont know if he will make the team. I just want to have a little knowledge before hand. Thanks

At least in SoCal there are a number of scout teams that play in the fall, normally on Sunday. Usually pitchers throw to 5 batters, most are supported by their club and the cost is very reasonable. There are a few more popping up that are starting to charge unreasable fee's so be careful. Normally no practices, just show up and play.

You did not post your son's age but for this year I would go if he is a 2011 or 2010.
Though the tryout was next weekend, my son told me this morning, ITS TODAY. I swear he would forget his last name if it wasn't stitched on his glove. Made it with plenty of time. It was well orgainzied and the tryout went fast. No contact between parents and coaches, which was good. The kid needs to handle his own business. About 14 pitchers. My boy held his own. He will not hear anything until mid August. They only play on Sundays, and there is no costs.

NJBB, I appreciate your PM. I tried to send you a response back, but somehow it did not go through. Thanks for your thoughts on the matter.
