I was going to post this in the California forum, but I thought other might be interested.
I know this isn't a HSBBW subject, but I just had to comment on the San Diego State University vs. Univ. of Houston game at the brand new San Diego Padres Petco Park last night.
Over 40,000 tickets sold (a new college record); probably 37,000 fans in attendance. FABULOUS new facility. Beautiful field, nearly all of the seats are great. (There are a few sections to absolutely avoid). The lighting is spectacular, especially at night where the ball park looks like an jewel in the night. The concourses are spacious and airy. Reminded us of baseball years ago. It was spectacular in spite of a few first day gliches.
We went since a High School teammate of ours is playing for SDSU. What a dream come true for any High School player -- or for any baseball player period.
Playing in a big league park, sitting in a major league dugout and locker room. For these guys --they were the first in Petco. Had the first hit, first home run, first out, first strike out, first stolen base in a brand spanking new major league park. Player's name and picture up on the jumbo-tron. Young men seeing their dreams come true.
An electric night for baseball. Wish all of my HSBB web friends could have been there. And, since I'm an Aztec alum -- the 4-0 win made the night even better.
